How much money do you have left each month after you’ve paid your mortgage and all of your bills? If you’re anything like the rest of the population I’m guessing it’s not enough. You want to take that money and spend it on things that will make your life better. If we never had money left to enjoy ourselves then what is the point of even getting up in the morning? That means nobody wants to use all their wages to pay for help because their home is in need of repair.
Something bad could still happen and you wouldn’t have any choice but to give away all your hard earned money. There are a few pricey disasters waiting to happen in every home unless you start to do something about it now. Let’s look at some of the things you need to try and prevent because fixing them would cost so much. Luckily they will only happen to a tiny percentage of us, but you want to do everything you can to make sure it’s not you.
Disgusting mold
Mold doesn’t just happen in areas that have been flooded. Even something as minor as a leaking pipe can have a devastating effect on your home. You need to make sure you check regularly for any areas where water could possibly lie. Even hidden areas like underneath your washing machine and dishwasher. The good news is that mold can’t grow without moisture and all you need to do is keep everywhere vented in addition to drying up any water whenever you find it.
A faulty foundation
One of the scariest things you might experience is a faulty foundation and when that happens there could be trouble. As soon as you find anything that could indicate there is something wrong with the foundation you need to get it checked straight away. Take a walk outside and see if your chimney is tilting to one side. You might also notice cracks appearing on a wall. To prevent any damage from occurring make sure your drainage system is working as it should be.
Creepy bedbugs
The most horrible thing that could happen to you is sharing a bed with little bugs that crawl all over your skin. It’s not easy to prevent an infestation because they can come from anywhere. It’s even harder to get rid of them because most of the chemicals used in the past have been shown to be dangerous to us as well. To minimize the risk you shouldn’t bring any old mattresses or furniture into your home. If you are bringing old furniture home then have it treated first.
Water damage
Water can cause more problems that just mold. When lots of water is coming into your home in can ruin everything in its path. If there are any areas where dampness keeps showing up then maybe there will be some cracks visible. If there is then you should get someone to take care of them. Another big problem that most people forget about because they can’t see it is the roof. It needs to be checked regularly because if there are any broken tiles a lot of water will get in.
Your sewer-line
The sewer-line will run from your home into the street. If there are any problems before it reaches the street it will be your responsibility to fix it. You don’t want the drains to back up because the smell alone will make you physically sick. Let water fill up your outside drains and if the water is backing up on itself you will know it’s blocked. If you call someone out they have special high-powered hoses and should be able to get rid of the blockage before it gets any worse.
