5 Unusual Places to find Inspiration when Decorating your Home

share small 5 Unusual Places to find Inspiration when Decorating your Home

There are a huge number of places to find inspiration when you’re decorating. There are just so many opportunities to find new creative ideas that you can recreate in your own home to give it some real vivacity. Because we all want a home that looks fabulous, but we never know where to look. It’s all well and good to check out what’s happening in houses for sale, but what about inspiration that’s a bit off the beaten track?

Recipe books

Recipe books might give you an idea of certain styles you’d like to replicate. You can sometimes see the home design in the background of the pictures of all those scrumptious foods. You might really like the look of red and white checks on that tablecloth – copy it! Better yet, recipe books might just give you ideas about what kind of food you can cook and all the fine smells that could be wafting through your home.

Public spaces

You can find a lot of inspiration in public parks. Graffiti on gazebos might just give you an idea about the kind of art you’d like to hang on the walls, or even just confirm what you don’t like. It’s all about aesthetic taste and some graffiti has a real cool arty vibe. You can also find inspiration in the flowers – a particular kind might look perfect on your dining room table, perhaps. So many possibilities.

TV & films

How about popular culture? Maybe fashion and textiles from TV and film could have a real influence on you. Check out the living arrangements of your fave characters and see if you can steal some of their ideas. Steal patterns from the hippest clothing trends. Remember that it’s not really “stealing” so long as you put your own original spin on it, and really adapt it to the look and feel of your home.

Inspiration from abroad

And when you go travelling, take note of all the home décor ideas in other cities or countries. Your hotel room might have a real spark or flair to it, or you might be inspired by some grand monuments and the kind of line and colour used there. Be creative. Draw from all kinds of sources. Travelling is all about allowing yourself to be inspired!

What bold new designs have you found? Where do you garner inspiration? Always remember to experiment with conflicting styles in order to make your home a really interesting and positive space.
