When you look at the way in which a dining set in your dining room was designed, you can immediately notice that it has a one large plane (the table) and a number of chairs. So, what do we do at a table in general? We eat, drink, have coffee, in other words, we Socialise, exchange experiences and information with our loved ones or our guest. The chairs are here just to enable us to comfortably sit at the table. Dining sets are therefore specifically designed to enable the family to get together and enjoy a relaxing meal.
They are the nuclei of our homes, which bring us together on weekends, holidays and during various important celebrations. People had always been the same, they always had a need to socialize and bond with their loved ones. In the past, people would sit by the fire in the open, have a meal and tell stories long into the night. A dining set is nothing but a modern version of that fire; a place where people can get together and bond.
Today, in the 21st century, most family members are overwhelmed with work and simply can’t find enough time to be with the rest of the family; parents work long hours, sometimes in different shifts, kids go to school, etc.. So getting together at a dining table on weekends is often their only opportunity to bond properly. However, there’s more to dining sets than just socializing. They actually enable the family to bond at multiple levels.
A simple dinner gives some family members a perfect opportunity to fulfil their individual roles within the family. For example, preparing and serving dinner to their children and husbands enables moms to fulfil their maternal role within the family. A lot of women get satisfaction from cooking for their loved ones. This satisfaction is even greater when other family member’s compliment the dinner by saying it was delicious.
This means that dining sets provide satisfaction and happiness for everyone sitting at the table; mom is happy because she just got a compliment, and the remaining family members are satisfied because they just had a delicious dinner. Food is another important aspect of the whole bonding ritual at the dining table. Taking small sips of your favourite drink and opening your senses to the multitude of flavours and aromas that fill the room has a relaxing effect on your body and soul.
