If you are running a commercial site, whether it’s a shopping centre, a restaurant or a supermarket, there’s a good chance that at least some of your land won’t be under-cover and will instead be exposed to the elements. If you have premises outside of your building then, it’s important to think about how you want that area to look just as it is to consider the appearance of your interior. Not only is the outside of your property the part that guests and visitors will see first when they come to visit, but it’s also a great opportunity to make your property look more modern and eco friendly. Here we will look at some tips to make your exterior look modern as well as serving a useful purpose.

Grass

First of all there is a good chance that you will want to include some grass around the outside of your building. This is a good move because it will make your property look more modern and add colour and life to the area rather than making it just a concrete jungle. At the same time, by including grass you can associate your business more with nature and with efficiency, and you can make it more pleasant for people to spend time in.

For this to work though you need to make sure that the grass you implement is green and well maintained – dead and old looking grass will have the opposite impacts. To ensure this is the case, consider using roll out astroturf, or using a sprinkler system and make sure you keep your visitors off of the grass (but be polite about it!).

Seating

By providing somewhere to sit and work outside you turn your exterior space into an area for potential productivity, relaxation and creativity. This increases the chances that people will spend time in your premises and it will make your business appear more forward thinking. Provide seating with some tables, and look for a minimal design that’s modern and efficient. While they look good, avoid metal benches unless they are coated – these can get hot in direct sunlight and rust in the rain!

Tidiness

No matter how good your exterior looks it won’t do you any good unless it is well maintained and that means making sure there’s no rubbish left lying around. To accomplish this you can of course hire cleaning staff, but at the same time you should also make sure to have lots of bins and ash trays around to let your visitors dispose of their trash themselves. This way they’ll do the job for you and you’ll demonstrate forethought and convenience.

Sculptures and Water Features

To really give your business a modern feel, having some modern sculptures or a water feature is a great way to make your space feel more creative and inspiring, and is a worthwhile investment. This way an outdoor space will look a lot less barren and static, and will have something that’s visually interesting to add character.
