The bathroom is one of those many areas of the house that should be
constructed well. It is because the bathroom is where everybody in the
house will be doing the most important part of personal hygiene. Thus, it
has to be clean, safe and comfortable. If your bathroom is devoid of any
of these three qualities, better think about remodeling it. However, be
sure to avoid each of the following bathroom remodeling mistakes:
Hiring Incompetent Contractors
Hiring incompetent contractors may put you at risk of not finishing the
bathroom as stated in the plan. Your bathroom remodeling plan may be
beyond the skills and abilities of an incompetent contractor. To ensure
that you get the best contractor, ask for recommendations from your
friends or relatives.
Not Having a Budget
Once you decide to have your bathroom remodeled, make sure that you have
enough budget for the said job. Your budget plan must properly indicate
how much each item is going to cost you. Compare prices for each material
such as the tiles, cement, adhesive sealants, etc. so you can decide if
you indeed are willing to send a certain amount of money for a specific
material.
Getting Obsessed with DIY Projects
Some homeowners are obsessed with DIY remodeling projects. There is
nothing wrong with a DIY project for as long as you know your limits. If
a certain task is something too complicated for you, better not lift a
finger on it and call the professionals instead. This is to ensure that
no money, time and effort are wasted.
Working with No Permit
Some houses may not require permits if some remodeling job is being done.
However, depending on where your house is currently situated you must know
where and when to get a city permit. This will make it easier for you to
get a professional home inspector and a licensed plumber as well. On the
other hand, failure to obtain a city permit may run the risk of getting
your remodeling project shut down. Not to mention the hefty fines or
penalties that you have to pay.
Sacrificing Quality for Price
Buying cheap materials may allow you to save some money. But, buying
hardware and other construction materials that are a bit expensive but
with high quality may allow you to save more in the long run. You should
know what items can be bought on a cheaper price without sacrificing the
quality and safety of your remodeled bathroom.
Sudden Change of Plan
Once you have laid out your bathroom remodeling plan to your contractor,
make sure that it is the final plan and not the tentative plan. Avoid
changing your mind when everything is in progress. Otherwise, you will
only be wasting everybody’s time. Add to that the hassle of having to
alter again what has already been changed in the bathroom. In most cases,
contractors are scheduled to begin another job in another place soon after
they are done with yours. Thus, changing your mind would mean your
bathroom is at risk of being left unfinished by contractors. In addition,
sudden change of plans may also mean problems in returning custom-designed
materials which can lead to wasted money.
