When clutter begins to overtake your home, it may be time to attack the dreaded task of organizing your attic. Why waste all of that valuable real estate when a little bit of coordinating and clean sweeping can give your home a more spacious comfortable feel? Once the attic is cleaned and organized, you can begin to store your precious memories without the fear of losing them in the cluttered darkness.
First, go into the attic and make sure the lights are working and open a window for ventilation. You will probably be stirring up a lot of dust and you don’t want to clog your lungs. Next, begin to put things in categories like keep, give away, or throw away. Be brutal. If you know you will never use something again, don’t keep it just because your great aunt Wanda gave it to you. Put it in the give away pile and let your trash become someone’s treasure. Once you have sorted through all of your items, you can begin to box up the items you would like to give away.
Next, gather all of the junk, trash and debris you would like to get rid of. The items that can be put out with the household trash removal can go in garbage bags. If you have a lot of large items you need to haul off, consider calling a company for appliance removal. That old, broken, outdated stove is never going redeem itself and become vintage. The washing machine you were planning to fix five years ago is doing nothing but taking up space. Call an appliance removal company so the neighbors do not get annoyed by the junk sitting in your yard.
Third, if you do not have time for a yard sale or the inclination to take stuff to the thrift store, a junk removal agency may be willing to pick the stuff up for you. Many companies advertise free pick up of unwanted items that saves homeowners the hassles of hauling stuff away. Once you have boxed up all of your unwanted items, set them out for the junk removal people to pick them up.
Finally, after you have cleared away all of the clutter, you are ready to begin organizing your attic. Build or buy some shelves to house smaller items and keep everything neat and easy to get to. If you are hoping to use part of your attic for livable space, like an office or art studio, move everything to the sides and leave an open space in front of the window. You can move a desk or table into this area and create an oasis away from the kids and other distractions. Make use of all of the old paintings and furniture pieces and surround yourself in memories from your past.
Organizing your attic will be simple if you follow these easy steps.
