Today is the tomorrow that we were waiting for yesterday. While we were busy waiting for solar panels to become a viable solution to our personal energy consumption plans they went ahead and turned into a viable solution for today. With the cost of solar panels dropping and the costs of purchasing energy for our home from our local utility companies rising, the cost equation has gone into positive territory making this investment a viable option for going green. Capable of powering our lights, appliances, water heaters, in-floor heating, and many other items, solar panels have arrived as of today.
For anyone who has the money (£7,000 upwards) to buy their own solar panels it can make a lot of sense. Feed-in tariffs allow excess electricity to be sold back to the grid. This could result in being around £1,000 a year better off. But, added to that are the actual savings made by generating your own power rather than having to buy it.
There are also schemes whereby you can get solar panels fitted for free. Although under such schemes you can’t sell the electricity back, you will still benefit from lower fuel bills, so it has to be a good thing.
