With the weather constantly changing it puts you at risk for all kinds of critters. One of the most notable creatures are black ants. They won’t cause you harm, but you certainly don’t want these creepy crawlers walking on you or in your food. There are simple lifestyle changes that you take follow through with to prevent these pests from bothering you in the future.
Clean, Clean, Clean
In most cases, these little guys found a snack in your house to feast on. This is especially common if you have kids because you are more likely to get crumbs spread around the house. Clean off table tops and toss any open food. Sweep and mop any of your tile and hardwood floors. Use a product with a strong cleaner or bleach so the ants lose their scent. Your next task is to vacuum your floors to pick up anything hiding in your floors. This is all you need to do sometimes to end your ant problem.
Child-Safe Removal Methods
In the event that the ants are still roaming your house, you can take a safer approach to remove them. This is especially important if you have pets or children. Several internet users have different approaches to getting rid of them by using all-natural products. Some people suggest using cinnamon and leaving it at a window they are coming through. Other say to use salt which could dehydrate the ants. You can even run this along their walking trail, although if you have pets, they may be attracted to the salt or cinnamon.
Poisonous Methods
If the ants are out of reach from your pets, or if you don’t have any pets or children, you can use boric acid which will kill the ants in a week. When you sprinkle the boric acid through their walking path, the ants take it back to their nest and spread it around. This poison will slowly kill the colony so they stop coming back to your house.
House Repairs
House repairs may be another factor you are getting ants. Try following the ant trail to see if there is a hole in your wall somewhere. You may also have a crack somewhere you can easily fix. This will not only prevent ants, but any other creepy critter that wants to adventure into your home. You could even save on your electricity bill by sealing everything up.
